EXELLENCE IN SCIENE AWARD (ESA) COMMITTEE AND PROCEDURES

Committee Membership
The ESA committee members are approved by the current Board of Directors and shall consist of 5 to 7 past Directors/Officers of the GTA. Additionally, a Board member or Officer of the GTA will act as an ex officio member of the committee to ensure that there is transparency of ESA committee procedures and communicate the awardee to the BOD in the ESA Committee’s Chairs absence. Committee members are appointed for a minimum period of 3 years, with opportunity of renewal if interested.

ESA Nomination Procedures
Current ESA committee members are not eligible for nomination. The nominations (at least 2) should be received by the ESA chair from the GTA membership and/or BOD members, no later than the end of the year prior to receipt of the award, in electronic format, to: daniel.roberts@crl.com. Requirements for the nomination include:

  1. The nominee should be a member of the GTA, and able to attend the meeting (confirmed by the nominator prior to nomination).
  2. The nominator will provide up to a 1-page description of the nominee’s notable contributions to GTA and the field of Genetic Toxicology.

The ESA Committee will meet by teleconference to discuss nominations and the Chair will communicate their decision to the BOD no later than 2 months prior to the annual meeting. The awardee will receive a plaque, monetary award, and is asked to deliver a 30-minute presentation on a topic of their choice at the annual meeting of the GTA. Additionally, the Awardee will write an article for the following years GTA Newsletter.

Award Description
The recipient of the ESA will be invited to attend the GTA meeting at which the award is presented at no cost and will be invited to give up to a 30 minute presentation on the topic of their choice. Two awards are given; a monetary award and secondary award (chocolate is suggested!).
